The development of a comprehensive manual containing details of your fire safety policies and procedures together with a record of any fire risk assessments, log books etc. plays an important role in the management of fire safety within your premises.

Typically a fire policy manual might contain the following information:
  • Policy statement
  • Details of designated responsibilities for fire safety including the name of the responsible person
  • Specific fire prevention measures in place for the building e.g. electrical safety precautions, the storage and use of flammable liquids and gases
  • Fire protection measures in place such as fire detection and alarm systems, fire escapes and firefighting equipment
  • Evacuation procedures including details of the actions required by those with specific responsibilities and the provisions made for those with disabilities or other special needs
  • Information regarding fire drill training, general fire safety training for staff and more specific training for fire marshals and those designated to provide help to people with disabilities
  • Instructions for visitors and contractors
  • The arrangements for the testing and servicing of fire protection equipment
  • Arrangements for liaison with the fire brigade
  • Details of fire safety inspections and audits
  • Documentation and records this will include all relevant fire safety documentation such as fire risk assessments, log books etc.
